REconnect is designed as a multi-level classroom. Instead of using age-based promotion, we work from a blended, self-paced, profficiency-based educational model. Students move fluidly through middle grade standards based on their level of mastery. Student partnerships, group projects, and peer tutoring are highly encouraged. Our lessons are integrated, comprehensive, and project based. Assessments are based on student portfolios.
ELA:
ELA curriculum focuses heavily on reflective writing. Our lessons pull from our nature based activities to help our students explore both creative and analytic writing. By integrating structured speech and debate activities, students not only enhance their communication skills but also develop critical thinking, research proficiency, and confidence in public speaking.
Literature is read “book club” style, with lively conversation and reflective activities. We also provide a leveled based reading list for our students outside of our instructional spaces. Emphasis is placed on our students reading works from BIPOC and diverse authors.
Social Studies:
Our Social Studies curriculum is pulled from the textbooks “The People’s History of the World” and “The People’s History of the United States.” Social Study lessons are designed using the Systems Thinking Theory, encouraging critical thinking and holistic understanding of the history of humanity. Content is based on TN and GA State Standards.
Science:
We use NextGen Science Standards because they are nationally recognized and we consider them to be deeper and more holistic than either TN or GA Science standards. Our Science curriculum is based in our STEAM programming.
Math:
We follow TN and GA State Standards for our Math coursework. We use Common Core as a base curriculum, and supplement with both applied math activities and online platforms.
